The ARTery: Arts and Culture Reporting

Ballerina performing

There has been a dramatic decline in coverage of arts and culture in our region. Many publications and websites known for arts reporting have shut down or scaled back, leaving residents hungry for information about the Greater Boston area’s rich arts scene.

Every vibrant arts and culture community needs a powerful voice that will chronicle, enliven and elevate the region’s creative efforts as an essential part of the broader public agenda. The ARTery is that voice. WBUR is expanding The ARTery in order to reach and engage communities throughout the region on-air, online and onstage.

The ARTery has an ambitious plan to broaden and deepen its exploration of Boston’s arts scene. We will create more content, reach new communities, sharpen our role as a curator of content and experiences and offer more live programming.

  • We are committed to producing more arts and culture coverage and will offer it on the radio, at live events and online using even more photos and video.
  • We will build a dedicated team of diverse contributing writers to complement our staff, all of whom will uncover stories unfolding at the community level.
  • Our arts and culture reporting has helped WBUR connect with new and underrepresented communities. With an eye toward the role of race, gender and power in art, ARTery reporters will continue to celebrate grassroots art and artists and tell stories that shine light on how art is made and defined.
  • We will provide more curated features and timely recommendations to help our listeners and users discover and experience arts and culture in communities throughout the region.
  • The ARTery will have an increased presence in the community through programming at CitySpace, where we will partner with local arts organizations and design live events that bring our reporting to life.

We are seeking $1 million to complete our expansion of The ARTery. We need your help to deliver on our promise of uncovering and sharing the rich tapestry of artistic and cultural expression in Boston and the region.
